Susan Crean is a well-known writer and cultural critic. She is the author of the award-winning biography of Emily Carr, The Laughing One, which was short-listed for the 2001 Governor General’s Award for Non-fiction, the 2001 Pearson Canada Readers’ Choice Award and the 2001 Drainie-Taylor Biography Prize. It was the winner of the 2002 B.C. Book Prize for Non-fiction. Susan Crean divides her time between Toronto, Ontario, and Gabriola Island, British Columbia.
