Brian Calvert

Brian Calvert is a Canadian, retired molecular biologist and current actor, writer and comedian living in Vancouver, BC. After earning a Masters’ degree studying tumor biology at the University of Saskatchewan and a brief career in research & development and sales, Brian embarked on a six-month creative sabbatical. Over four years later, it is a full-time endeavour.

Much of his early sketch work was with comedy groups ChurchofJerks.com and VILLAGEiDiOT.ca, both of which he helped create. Village Idiot’s comedic photocompositions went on display as the February/March 2009 Artists-in-Residence at The Tipper Restaurant & Review Room. Later that year, their video commercial entry “Man Scouts” won 1st prize at Big Rock Brewery’s 16th Annual Eddie Awards.

Recognizing the value of performing live, Brian took on the roles of co-producer, writer & actor for 5 separate multi-media (live & video) stage shows, as well as a lead acting role in a 2009 Vancouver International Fringe Festival production, The First Time.

Brian has appeared in numerous TV commercials and series. Vancouver’s NOVUS TV invited Brian to write and host the series “2010-101” where he interviewed Winter Olympic athletes and showcased Vancouver 2010 venues. Immediately prior to the Canada Party launch, Brian co-produced, co-stared in and wrote the scripted content for Canada’s first comedic lifestyle show, the GOtoGAL, which aired nationally on CHEK TV.

Like his colleague, Chris Cannon, Brian has also served his country—one night a week for almost a year as youth Cub Scout. He thoroughly enjoys balls, sports and beach walks that don’t exceed 680 meters (0.422532 miles). Brian has a unique relationship with America, growing up in Sarnia, Ontario, border town to Port Huron, Michigan, back when the border felt unimpeded. He later spent 8 years on Canada’s prairies before landing on the west coast.
