Empty Casing

Beyond the Page

Fortunate as we are to not be living in a war zone, we're reliant on the media to depict these regions; our information about what's happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and Darfur comes from those journalists on the ground, often through a filter dictated by the media outlet broadcasting it. In Empty Casing we get a soldier's account, in this case from the front lines of the Bosnian conflict. For this honest view, read on.

Stephen Hunt

Author Spotlight

It's true that "Stuff White People Like" is a blogging phenomenon, but it can't lay claim to being the first of its kind. In 1999 Calgary Herald writer Stephen Hunt wrote a play called "The White Guy" as a way of coming to terms with the problems caused by the men of his race, not without a hint of irony. Now a book of the same name, The White Guy leads the reader through the complex rituals of this species from golfing to entrepreneurship to the khaki-short-Tilley-hat wardrobe combo. Catch his hilarious speaking events in Calgary and Winnipeg coming up in May.
