For two consecutive years we were honoured to have an author win the prestigious Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction – one of Canada’s most respected awards for non-fiction writing. The Last Heathen, by Charles Montgomery, was granted the award in 2005, followed by J.B. MacKinnon’s win, for Dead Man in Paradise, in 2006.

A Race for Real Sailors, by maritime enthusiast Keith McLaren, won the 2007 Dartmouth Book Award and the 2007 Canadian Nautical Research Society's Keith Matthews Award for Best Book.

Also in 2007, Emily Carr, by Ian M. Thom, Charles C. Hill, and Johanne Lamoureux, won the Melva J. Dwyer Book Award, which recognizes outstanding reference books relating to Canadian art. This book was also short-listed for the 2007 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Book Prize, as part of the BC Book Prizes.

Vij's: Elegant and Inspired Indian Cuisine, by Vikram Vij and Meeru Dhalwala, was awarded 1st prize in the Reference category of the 2007 Alcuin Book Design Awards, won Barbara Jo's First Annual Cookbook Award in 2007 and was also short-listed for the ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award in the Cooking category.
