Vancouver Cooks 2 wins gold in 2010 Canadian Culinary Book Awards!

Douglas & McIntyre is delighted to announce that its recent culinary release, Vancouver Cooks 2 has won gold in the English Canadian Culinary Culture category of the 2010 Canadian Culinary Book Awards.

The judges praised Vancouver Cooks 2 for contributing “to Canada’s culinary culture by showcasing West Coast ingredients and the highly individual ways in which 70 diverse top and emerging chefs are using them.” The recipes themselves were lauded as “well tested and edited with home cooks in mind, encouraging them to think outside of the proverbial recipe box, but still suitable for experienced cooks.” Furthermore, veteran chef John Bishop, one of Vancouver Cooks 2’s most experienced contributors, took home his own personal prize—the 2010 Edna Award, honouring a lifetime achievement in the “promotion of regional cuisine” and exemplifying “the region through his or her work.”

Following-up the wildly successful Vancouver Cooks, Vancouver Cooks 2 is a second helping of extravagant recipes celebrating the B.C. food scene. Divided into four sections—local food, international flavours, emerging talents and pioneering chefs—Vancouver Cooks 2 celebrates the histories and ingredients that have forged Vancouver’s unique culinary culture and made the city a world-class dining destination.

The awards organizer, Cuisine Canada, is a national alliance of Canadian culinary professionals who share a common desire to encourage the development, use and recognition of fine Canadian food and beverages. The winners were announced Friday, November 5, 2010, on opening day of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, in Toronto.
