Vijís at Home wins silver at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards

March 2011

Douglas & McIntyre is delighted to announce that its most recent culinary release, Vijís at Home: Relax, Honey has placed second in the Best Indian Cuisine Book in the World category at the 2010 Gourmand International World Cookbook Awards.

The awards were inaugurated in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau to ďhonour the best food and wine books,Ē and are presented in a total of 59 categories, over two rounds. After winning the Best in Canada title, Vijís at Home qualified to compete for the best in the world prize, where it was runner-up in a shortlist with titles from the United Kingdom, Iceland and the United States.

Following their critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning bestseller Vijís: Elegant and Inspired Indian Food, preeminent culinary couple Meeru Dhalwala and Vikram Vij show how to prepare the recipes they eat at home, from vegetarian dishes that go from stove to plate in less than 45 minutes to seafood, poultry and meat dishes that come together in 20 minutes. ďCooking is one of humankindís most unique forms of nurturing; it takes effort, but it isnít a household chore,Ē they explain. Designed for flavour, versatility and convenience, virtually every recipe can be adapted to suit the readerís palate, dietary preferences or on-hand ingredients.

Over 150 countries participated in the 2010 Gourmand Awards. The results were announced on March 3, 2010 at the annual gala, in the new Artistic Center of the City of Paris, on the first day of the Paris Cookbook Fair.
