From those entries they choose winners in 11 specialized categories and assign three Gold Ribbon Merit Awards. This year, all three Merit Awards went to Canadian cookbooks: The Cocktail Chef (Douglas & McIntyre), The 100-Mile Diet (Random House Canada) and King of the Q Blue Plate BBQ (HarperCollins Canada).
